Below, you’ll find important details about lockout procedures, room maintenance, decorating policies, and amenities like laundry facilities, trash disposal, and bike storage. Our goal is to ensure that your time at Leverett House is as seamless and enjoyable as possible.

###    Bicycle Storage & Registration:  expand\_more  

- **McKinlock Residents:** Use the bicycle rack at the far end of the courtyard.
- **Tower Residents:** Use bicycle racks behind F Tower.
- **Prohibited Areas:** Do not lock bikes to stairwells, gates, posts, or handicapped ramps. Violators may have locks cut or bikes removed.
- **Commencement:** Bikes must be removed from racks in May.
- **Bike Registration:** Register your bicycle with HUPD here to deter theft.

 

 



###    Bathrooms:  expand\_more  

- **Lights:** Allow the sensor to turn off automatically after 20 minutes.
- **Cleaning:** Hallway bathrooms are cleaned daily; in-suite bathrooms are cleaned every other week. Report issues online.

 

 



###    Decorating Your Suite:  expand\_more  

- **Prohibited Items:** Nails, tacks, picture hooks, tape, and adhesives.
- **Allowed Items:** Use only College-provided poster gum ("HOLD IT") or molding hooks and picture wire, available from the Building Manager's office.
- **Damage Costs:** Minimum $100 for repairs, potentially over $200.

 

 



###    Electrical Outlets in McKinlock:  expand\_more  

- **Tamper-Proof Outlets:** Plug devices in perpendicularly and fully to engage the outlet.
- **Voltage Sensitivity:** Unplug devices properly to avoid tripping the circuit.
- **Power Loss:** If power is lost, contact the Control Center at 617-495-5560 for assistance.

 

 



###    Laundry Facilities:  expand\_more  

- **Locations:** Basements of McKinlock, F, and G Towers.
- **Laundry View:** Check availability of washers and dryers.
- **Malfunctions:** Report machine issues online or email the Building Manager.

 

 



###    Lockout Procedures:  expand\_more  

- **Weekdays (Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM):** Contact the Building Manager, Mohamed Zaker, at [mohamed\_zaker@harvard.edu](mailto:mohamed_zaker@harvard.edu) or 617-495-2277.
- **Weekends & Holidays (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM):** Contact Securitas at 617-496-9370.
- **Nights (4:00 PM - 8:00 AM):** Visit the Security Guard in the Leverett Library building or call 617-495-1865. If the guard is not present, wait 10 minutes for their return. If they haven't returned, call the Alpha Guard Station at 617-496-9370 to have the guard radioed back to their post.

 

 



###    Lost Keys & Replacements:  expand\_more  

- Report lost keys to the Building Manager.
- **Replacement Costs:** $20 during the term, $50 at the end of the term.

**Room Damage & Suite Inspections:**

- **Initial Inspection:** Inspect your suite at the start of the term and report any damages to [mohamed\_zaker@harvard.edu](mailto:mohamed_zaker@harvard.edu) by registration.
- **Periodic Inspections:** Suites will be inspected throughout the year and at the end of the academic year for safety, repairs, and policy compliance.
- **Consequences:** Violations of facility policy may result in confiscation of items, fines, and disciplinary action.

 

 



###    Temperature Control:  expand\_more  

- **Towers:**
    - Close windows properly.
    - Ensure radiator vents are unblocked.
    - Adjust the heat output using the control panel.
    - Use sunlight and close curtains at night.
    - North-facing rooms are cooler and adjusted accordingly.
- **McKinlock:**
    - Adjust heating using the knob.
    - Keep vents unblocked.
    - Close windows and avoid drafts.
    - Use sunlight and close curtains at night.
    - Set the heat control to the lowest temperature when leaving for breaks.
- **Issues:**
    - Overheated or cold rooms: Contact the Building Manager.
    - After-hours temperature control issues: Contact the Control Center at 617-495-5560.

 

 



###    Space Heaters & Air Conditioners:  expand\_more  

- Space heaters are not permitted due to fire hazards.
- Air conditioners require a physician's recommendation and approval from the DAO.

 

 



###    Trash & Recycling Procedures:  expand\_more  

- **Tower Residents:** Dispose of trash in gray bins on the ground floor.
- **McKinlock Residents:** Use room LL12 in the lower level by the Rabbit Hole.
- **Questions:** Contact the Building Manager.

 

 



###    Furnishings:  expand\_more  

- **Harvard-Issued Furniture Storage:** Contact the Building Manager to discuss storage options for Harvard-issued furniture.
